  3. Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle are still some of today's most popular stories, but The Devil and Tom Walker seems to have fallen out of popularity. Is this because of the harsh messages the story brings forth, or is it simply coincidence?

  4. The devil and tom walker was a story that had a dark feeling to it and Tom walker, the protagonist, sins. Does this story relate to the anti-transcendentalist trait of all men are sinners? Does the story relate to transcendentalism at all?

  8. The video we watched in class portrayed that Tom Walker was kind of an evil/immoral person, in regards to how he loaned money to people. The story we read just stated that he loaned money to people, and nothing besides that. Did we read an abridged version of the story, or am just I missing something about Tom?
